My name is Claudina, and I created these products with a mission to nourish.
I am a mother of three girls and have spent the last twenty years raising them. My middle daughter has a rare genetic disorder, and I was told when she was one year old that she might not live past the age of eight. I have spent the past twenty years navigating incredibly difficult situations with her, and her sisters, and we have learned in that process, that staying grounded, remaining positive, taking care of ourselves, and nurturing our bodies and souls is the key to surivival.
During COVID I began to create soothing oils that would help us all feel more relaxed, and at the same time nourish our very dry skins. I am originally from the Dominican Republic (and have always loved the sun!), so I started playing around with oils like coconut, and moringa, both plants native to my homeland. I then started adding scents that felt soothing and calming, like jasmine and neroli. In time, as friends started to ask me to make them some, I was encouraged to keep going and make it more official.
One day as I sat in my garden, a name popped into my head out of the ether. “Quinta Esencia”. I am someone who is deeply spiritual, and also very connected to scents and where they take me. I learned that the olfactory system (our sense of smell) has a stronger connection to the hippocampus than any other sensory system (sound and sight and touch), which is why scents trigger such memories and emotions. I wanted the oils to evoke emotions of peace and calm and serenity. I enrolled in aromatherapy classes, and soon began to research where I could get pure unadulterated natural oils. Like every other experience in my personal life, the creation of Quinta Esencia has been a journey.
According to medieval science, quintessence (or ether) is the material that fills the region of the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere. I could not think of a better reference to embody the vision I have for these products.
